EDITOR’S NOTE
We thank everyone who has contacted us in recent months to inquire about the hiatus of this e-newsletter. Indeed BrazilMax.com tracks my own life in many ways, and I’ve had more than my share of spills and thrills. But never fear, we’re back on track. Watch this space for news of new features - including the resurrection of BrazilMax Radio.

The Brazilian Landless Workers Movement (MST) - This story was first published over a decade ago. Much has changed since then but the article still gets cited in academic studies, so there must have been something to it, right? Since there are groups that offer “Reality Tours” that explore the MST, we decided to publish this here as a service to both travelers and scholars. By Bill Hinchberger. Read more:

WEB AROUND BRAZIL: BRAZILMAX IN THE NEWS
CNN.com: Brazil's high-tech hub grows in Sao Paulo's Brooklin – BrazilMax’s Bill Hinchberger is interviewed about his old neighborhood:

Intute – Here’s how Intute describes itself: “With millions of resources available on the Internet, it can be difficult to find useful material. Our subject specialists review and evaluate thousands of resources to help you choose the key websites in your subject... Intute is created by a consortium of seven universities, working together with a whole host of partners.” Here is how it describes BrazilMax: “This website presents thoroughly researched information about Brazil in all the aspects of its life. One particular section describes the different area of Brazil, carefully mixing geographical information with tourist attractions, providing access to maps... This amply illustrated site is a good, attractively presented introduction to the life, geology and history of Brazil, originally designed for the visitor but also informative and thorough for the undergraduate user.” Check out the listing:

Vagablogging: Ditch the guidebook for a good website? – A leading travel blog asks a rhetorical question and answers it by citing BrazilMax as an example: “When doing pre-trip research, finding a good website feels like striking gold. This happened to me when I discovered Leif Pettersen’s travelogue. I was planning a trip to Myanmar (Burma) at the time, and it was hard finding good info. His long, detailed posts were a godsend. As I travel around Southeast Asia, I notice lots of backpackers using Travel Fish to look up guesthouses. The only problem is that it’s so good that I wish it covered more countries, like Malaysia and Indonesia. Rick Steves, host of the travel show, has lots of Europe tips at his website. Some of the best websites are run by frequent visitors/long-time expats to that region or country. ReidOnTravel is a fantastic resource for Vietnam, as is BrazilMax for that country.” Read the full entry:

The Biocontrol Beat blog included a citation of BrazilMax as part of an item that featured Hermione Bicudo at Universidade Estadual Paulista. Hermione is pioneering the recycling of biodegradable used coffee grounds, a ubiquitous waste product of modern caffeinated societies, for control of mosquitoes spreading dengue fever and other killer diseases. See the full post:

http://www.brazilmax.com/news4.cfm/tbor ... drink/id/3. The excerpt is illustrated by classic paintings by the 20th century modernist Brazilian master Candido Portinari.
Priscilla Ramos da Silva cited BrazilMax in her masters thesis on Brazilian art in the 1990s at Unicamp:
