Commentary by Jeremy Garrett
About 180 people registered for Expoecoturismo's conference, including some 50 non-Venezuelan participants from 14 countries that included Australia, Brazil, Bolivia, England and Ireland! Having attended a plethora of domestic US and international tourism conferences over the past 14 years, I was duly impressed

The New York Times posted a correction:
"In article on Aug. 1 about hiking up Mount Roraima, in southeastern Venezuela, omitted attribution for some historical references to 19th-century exploration. They relied on descriptions at www.thelostworld.org, a Web site devoted to natural attractions in Venezuela's southeast."

Kudos to Dominic Hamilton for getting the credit due! |

From the Orinoco to the Amazon, Crossing Divides. Do have a look at the audio multimedia, and the photos, which are excellent.

Readers of this forum should read this article from Le Monde Diplomatique about Chavez:
http://www.venezuelavoyage.com/lemonde.htm
It's one of the better articles I've read about the elections and the reality of Venezuela. Many will disagree with its take, but personally, I think it's very close to the truth. Either way, it's an interesting piece.

|
|
http://www.aporrea.org/dameverbo.php?docid=53159
Information is coming to light about international support for the anti-Chavez coup in 2002, which deposed Chavez from power for 48 hours. According to the ex-Chancellor of Mexico, and this article, Spain, Colombia, El Salvador and the US were all involved in the plot to overthrow the regime.
Anyone interested in the issue should try to see the documentary "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised." >> http://www.chavezthefilm.com/index_ex.htm It caused plenty of controversy when it was released, both within and without Venezuela. It's definitely worth seeing, if for no more than another perspective on the struggles in Venezuela.
Saludos,
Dominic
