The New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2010 (NZTS 2010) was launched in 2001. The NZTS 2010 was developed by the private sector, government and Maori in partnership. For the first time, the NZTS 2010 articulated a clear, shared vision for the future of the tourism sector in New Zealand. The NZTS 2010 identified the type of tourism we want to attract as high quality, high-yielding and sustainable.

The key objectives of the NZTS 2010 are:

Securing and conserving a long term future
Marketing and managing a world class visitor experience
Working smarter
Being financially and economically prosperous
Enabling the sector (including technology, people, research and development, infrastructure and investment, and quality)
