Black Sheep Inn Finalist in Sustainable Tourism
Hello Friends!
We need your help. Black Sheep Inn is one of three finalists in the conservation category of the Smithsonian Magazine / Tourism Cares for Tomorrow Award. The winner will be awarded 20,000 dollars! If Black Sheep Inn is chosen, we will use the prize money to convert BSI to Solar/Wind power! We could get off the grid! For design details see: www.blacksheepinn.com/HybridSolarWindDesign.htm
Now, the weird thing is that not only can you vote once, but also each email address can vote daily, and from each computer you can vote with several email addresses! We are up against two expensive (okay, and we admit, quality) eco-lodges in Africa

Conference for abolition of Foreign Military Bases
Inaugural Conference of the International Network for the Abolition of Foreign Military Bases in Quito and Manta, Ecuador
March 5 to 9, 2007
This conference is the result of three years of meetings, networking, e-mail discussions, conference calls and exchanges to create the most extensive global network of organizations and individuals working on foreign militarybases in history. The conference itself will be an intensive working meeting of three days in Quito; we will share information and experiences; strategize, discuss political and movement perspectives and goals and plan the organizational future of the network. There will also be a track of activities for those who new to military base issues to learn from experienced activists.
After three days in Quito, the conference will go to Manta where the participants will join local community leaders in a day of action around the US Airbase there. The focus will be on sharing of experiences in campaigning; the specific political, economical, sociologic and ecologic meaning of the base for the local population, and the role of the airbase in US military operations in Latin America.
You can register for the five-day conference on-line at http://www.no-bases.net Cost for registration for participants from North America and Europe is $100, not including airfare to Quito, hotel or food. It covers participation in all sessions, materials, language interpretation, and round-trip bus travel between Quito and Manta.
