Planeta does not have a single page about marine tourism, but we do have a number of resources and features, including our whale watching and turtle watching guides.
This topic will address news and publications in the field of marine tourism. Please follow our standard guidelines.

Environmental risks associated with arctic cruise tourism
WWF has recently published a report on the environmental risks cruise tourism poses to the arctic environment. The report addresses specifically the situation on the high-arctic archipelago of Svalbard (half way between Northern Norway and the Northpole), but findings are of interest to cruise activities in other parts of the world as well.

This is Kenneth Johnson from EcoColors in Cancun. I am a Mexican marine biologist and have been working with adventure travel and ecotourism in the last 9 years in the Maya area.
Due to our concern for biodiversity, we have been involved in several conservation projects. Currently we are working with ICRAN MAR project which educates marine recreation providers on operating their businesses with good environmental practices.

Marine recreation practises
Hi -
this might be of interest for people working with good practises in the marine tourism sector
A Practical Guide to Good Practice: Managing Environmental Impacts in the Marine Recreation Sector
http://www.toinitiative.org/supply_chain/supply.htm
The guide has been developed by the members of the UN Tour Operator Initiative and as many of them are fairly big main stream operators, this might actually something to inspire some of the larger players in this sector.
Greetings, Miriam

New book - Marine Ecotourism: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
by Carl and Erlet Cater
Excerpts
All hands on deck
http://www.planeta.com/planeta/07/0712m ... rism2.html
We are dealing with a meta-problem characterized by highly interconnected planning and policy issues ... Given the almost unparalleled complexities involved, we need to draw on a range of disciplines in order to better understand the multiple contexts, issues and viewpoints implicated in marine ecotourism across the globe. The essential challenge, however, is to move towards a holistic, integrated approach, rather than the piecemeal, disjointed, approaches which have characterised coastal and marine tourism.
Setting Course
http://www.planeta.com/planeta/07/0712m ... urism.html
We are attempting to advance both the conceptual and practical understanding of marine ecotourism and the physical, technological, ecological, economic, cultural, social, political and institutional contexts at varying scales in which it is cast as a process that may simultaneously disenable and enable sustainable outcomes for marine tourism.
